YeVette Thornton Named Director of Human Resources
YeVette M. Thornton has been promoted to Director of Human Resources, effective Dec. 23, 2012. She has served as the department’s interim director since August 2012 and joined the department as associate director in 2007.
“YeVette is an experienced professional who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this position,” said John Martin, vice president for finance and administration. “She is, without question, well prepared and ready to lead our HR Department.”
Thornton began her career in higher education at Georgia State University, where she was employed for more than 10 years, including the post of College Administrative Officer for GSU’s College of Arts and Sciences. While in Georgia, Thornton also completed eight years of service in the Army National Guard as a platoon leader.
She holds a master’s degree in human resources from Webster University and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, human resources management – legal from Georgia State University. She is a Certified Professional of Human Resources (PHR).
Thornton also volunteers in College and community activities, including serving as a mentor for first-year students, assisting with New Music New College activities, participating in Mentor Girls, Inc. and serving on the Jewish Family and Children Services personnel committee.
