Tuesday, September 24, 2:00 p.m. Update (read below):

NCF Community,

The safety of our students, faculty and staff is always our top priority. The New College campus will be closed Wednesday, September 25 through Friday, September 27, 2024 in consideration of the potential impacts from Tropical Storm/Potential Hurricane Helene. All campus amenities will be closed during this time including the Campus Bookstore, Rec Center, Mama Gs, and waterfront activities. All campus events, including athletics practices and games, are cancelled Wednesday, September 25 through Sunday, September 29 (Men’s and Women’s soccer games will still be played this evening).

Class Cancellation Information:

All classes are cancelled for the entirety of September 25, 26, and 27, 2024. Faculty members will remain in contact with students via email regarding assignments if possible, and will work with students on additional accommodations as necessary for missed classroom time due to the closure. Normal classes will resume on Monday, September 30.

On-Campus Housing:

A VOLUNTARY EVACUATION is in effect for all students living on the New College campus. Dining services will remain open during this time. Students should refer to their hurricane plans and act accordingly if leaving the campus. Students who elect to leave campus are welcome to return at any time ahead of Monday’s reopening. Please note: It is the responsibility of each student to communicate with their family about their plans for the storm. The College will not be sending communications directly to student family members or emergency contacts regarding the initiation of the campus closing.

For students who would feel more comfortable leaving their dorm but do not have an off-campus location to evacuate to, Sudakoff Conference Center is available as a shelter. Cots will be available and meals will be provided through dining services. Students planning to go to Sudakoff during the storm should bring any essential items including medicine, pillow and blanket, etc. This option is only available to NCF students.

Students planning to stay at Sudakoff should email Vice President of Student Affairs Almeda Jacks at [email protected] by NOON on Wednesday, September 25 in order to coordinate food service planning and facility staffing. The Sudakoff shelter will be available to move into between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Faculty and Staff Duties During the Storm:

During the campus closure, non-critical personnel should not come to campus. Only staff classified as critical, with responsibilities directly related to storm response, should be on campus starting September 25 and continuing until normal operations resume. Essential personnel who can complete their duties remotely should do so unless impeded by impacts from the storm. Non-essential personnel will receive paid administrative leave for the period the campus is closed. Critical and essential personnel will receive comp time for working during the storm. For additional information on what personnel are considered critical or essential, please visit https://www.ncf.edu/new-college-of-florida-hurricane-preparedness/. Faculty and staff with additional questions should direct them to their Supervisor.

Campus Safety:

As of now, the Campus Police will continue to be fully operational during the storm.

Additional updates will continue to be relayed via email, on NCF.edu, through NCF social media channels, and the Mighty Banyan Safe app.

Thank you.
