Scott Addresses Cost of Education
Gov. Rick Scott has seemingly simple goals for Florida’s public universities. He wants them to be as inexpensive as possible while making sure students graduate on time and are able to land good-paying jobs. Describing it repeatedly as a sound “return on investment” during a Wednesday appearance before the Board of Governors, Scott said he wants the cost of attending one of Florida’s 11 public universities — soon to be 12 — tied to results. “Can we do it less expensively?” Scott said during a 35-minute session at New College in Sarasota, where the state’s higher education governing board was meeting. “It’s no fun to focus on the cost side, but we have to do it.”
