In Manatee County some very dedicated archaeologists have been working for years to prove that a group of over 1,800 escaped slaves once created a civilization in Manatee County. Now it looks like their hard work has paid off. The group of researchers believe they’ve uncovered the long lost Angola culture. The Angola people were a group of black slaves who escaped to the Bay area centuries ago. “They came together with the commonality of living in freedom and successfully did so for a couple of decades,” said Uzi Baram, Professor Of Anthropology at New College Of Florida. The team’s research and logic led them to east Bradenton.
