R. Gardner Sherrill Elected to the New College Foundation Board of Trustees
August 4, 2011—The New College Foundation has announced the election of R. Gardner Sherrill to its Board of Trustees. The Foundation raises funds to support New College of Florida, the state’s designated honors college, ranked among the country’s finest and most affordable liberal arts institutions.
Sherrill is a wealth advisor at The Private Bank of Wells Fargo, where he helps create and execute a personal wealth plan for his clients and their families. Prior to Wells Fargo, he held positions at Northern Trust, Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney and SunTrust.
Active in the local community, he currently serves as president of planned giving for the Anna Maria Island Community Center and for St. Stephens Episcopal School. In addition, he is president of the Estate Planning Council of Manatee County and a member of the Southwest Estate Planning Council. Other organizations Sherrill has served in the past include Red Cross of Manatee and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.
Sherrill holds a B.A. degree from Rollins College and an M.B.A. from the University of Denver – Daniels College of Business. Professionally, he has earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFA) and Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) designations.
The mission of New College Foundation is to provide enhancement funding to enable New College of Florida to deliver an individualized liberal arts and sciences education and prepare its graduates to assume leadership roles in scholarly, civic, artistic and commercial endeavors. In addition to contributing general funds, the Foundation funds faculty chairs and professorships, faculty development, student scholarships and student academic research.
