The American Association of University Administrators has recognized Provost Barbara Feldman with its McInnis/Ryan Award for Mid-Career Higher Education Leadership, which she will receive on June 5th at the AAUA Leadership Seminar in Miami Beach. According to the AAUA website, this award recognizes “individuals with 5 – 15 years of higher education administrative service who have demonstrated accomplishments significantly beyond the norm and who has – by virtue of his/her achievements and behaviors – demonstrated a personal commitment to ethical and principled leadership practice.”
Feldman, who was nominated for the award by Professor Miriam Wallace, has served as provost of New College since 2017. In the last three years, she has overseen the hiring of 25 faculty/instructors from diverse fields, as well as new librarians and ORPS staff. She has also overseen the addition of new areas of concentration in Neuroscience and Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies, and the implementation of the First Year Seminar program.
“We are very proud of Barbara for winning this award,” said President Donal O’Shea. “She has played a vital role in advancing the academic programs at New College as we continue to prepare intellectually curious students for lives of great achievement.”
Prior to coming to New College, she served as provost at Bridgewater State University from 2015 to 2017 and as dean of the Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences at New Jersey City University from 2009 to 2015. She also has held teaching and administrative roles at Montclair State University and Seton Hall University.
