Powerlifters make their mark at state competition

The New College Powerlifting Team made their presence known at the 16th Annual USA Powerlifting Florida Collegiate State Championships in Orlando Nov. 10, winning two medals and setting several personal bests.
“This was a very competitive event with the best collegiate lifters coming from across Florida to compete,” said Jacob Brody-Ogborn, the team’s president and co-captain. “I am extremely proud of our team and how well they represented New College of Florida.”
Taylor Young took third place in the 185lbs/84kgs weight class, the most competitive women’s weight class of the competition. Her top lifts:
Squat: 253 lbs.
Bench: 165 lbs.
Deadlift: 319 lbs.
Daniel Schell took fourth place in the 145.50lbs/66kgs weight class. His top lifts:
Squat: 265 lbs.
Bench: 165 lbs.
Deadlift: 310lbs.
Jacob Brody-Ogborn competed in the 182.75lbs/83kgs weight class. While not winning a medal for being in the top five, he did complete a perfect score of not failing any attempts and gaining new personal records on all three lifts:
Squat: 330 lbs.
Bench: 220 lbs.
Deadlift: 440 lbs.
If you are interested in joining the powerlifting team or just getting a great workout, the team practices Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:30 p.m. in the Fitness Center.
