O’Shea: Human rights and Dr. Fagin’s legacy

A good education should enlarge the universe, spatial and temporal, that students apprehend. Universities function as time machines, where students take the wisdom of those who have gone before and make it their own. Some days this function burns heartbreakingly bright.
Such was the case at the end of last month, when Helen Fagin, a centenarian, a retired English professor from the University of Miami, and a Holocaust survivor returned to New College of Florida to re-dedicate the collection of books, documentaries, audio recordings and other materials pertaining to the Holocaust that she had donated to the library in 2008.
