The answers to those questions – and nearly 60 more – are in research projects by students at New College of Florida, and will be presented in [New Scholars] New College, a day-long event Thursday, May 23, at the Sudakoff Conference Center.
New Scholars is the College’s annual celebration of student research and thesis work, and features oral presentations and poster sessions of work in all academic disciplines and from all class levels. Students present the capstone work of their academic careers to both the college and the community it serves.
“New Scholars embodies New College of Florida’s mission of providing an education where students collaborate closely with faculty and conduct hands-on research that improves the community and expands the body of knowledge in their field of study,” said New College President Donal O’Shea.
This year, New Scholars focuses on the value that New College students can provide to businesses.
Robert Hans, the founder and CEO of IOS Partners, a Miami consulting firm, will give the keynote address, “New College Interns: An Investment with High Returns – How a Liberal Arts and Sciences Education Can Transform Business!” Hans is a 1980 alumnus of New College. Joining him in the keynote will be Tristan Zucker, a former intern at IOS Partners and now an analyst with Cornerstone Research. Zucker is a 2012 New College alumnus.
Another highlight of the day is Meet the National Fellowship Winners,  a noontime panel of students including the College’s six Fulbright scholars, Truman leadership scholar Michael Long and Goldwater math and science scholars Timothy Duff and Jonas Slackman.
The event is free and open to the public. Those planning to attend the keynote and breakfast are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected] or by calling 487-4800. More information is available at ncf.edu/new-scholars
