Congratulations to the newly founded New Crew (New College’s rowing team)! On February 29 in Gainesville, the team took part in its first race, a regatta called “Duel in the Swamp,” in which the athletes raced against students from the University of South Florida (USF), the University of Florida (UF), Florida State University (FSU) and the University of Central Florida (UCF). Together, New College second-year student Antonia Ginsberg-Klemmt (also the team’s founder/coach), first-year Ash Howland and first-year Nicole McKenna (as well as UF student Dina Lutz, and State College of Florida (SCF) student Romy Roberts) came in fourth place. New Crew is a Cross College Alliance (CCA) team that is open to students from New College, USF Sarasota-Manatee, SCF and Ringling College of Art & Design. Ginsberg-Klemmt will be attending the 2020 FIRA Rowing Regatta at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota on April 3 and hopes to generate plenty more interest (and hopefully 12 rowers) before then. Stay tuned for more details on the New Crew story. To get involved, call 941-284-9175 or email [email protected].
