New College, United Way Offering Free Tax Help for Low-Income Individuals and Families this January
New College of Florida is partnering with the United Way to offer free tax preparation for low-income individuals and families this month. The service, which is part of the United Way’s VITA Free Tax Preparation program, is available to individuals and families who earned less than $49,000 in 2009.
The tax preparers, who have been specially trained by the United Way, will be available from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. daily on Wednesday, January 20, Tuesday, January 26 and Wednesday, January 27 in Room 5 of the Hamilton Classroom Building on the New College campus. The Hamilton Classroom Building is located on New College’s East Campus, adjacent to the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. To get there, take US 41 to General Spaatz Boulevard, the first light north of University Parkway, and head east.

Here is a list of items to bring to your meeting with the tax preparers:
- Proof of Identification, Social Security cards and birthdates for you, your spouse and dependents,
- Wage and earning statements for all employers (W-2, W-2G, 1099-R),
- Interest and Dividend Statements from banks,
- A copy of last year’s Federal and state tax returns (if available),
- Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit,
- Total paid for Day Care Provider and Day Care Provider Taxpayer ID # (as applicable).
