New College President Mike Michalson Appointed to Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors

The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce has announced that New College of Florida President Gordon E. “Mike” Michalson, Jr., is one of eight new members to join the board for 2009-2010.  Michalson’s appointment will be officially announced at the Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon, to be held at Sarasota’s Ritz Carlton Hotel on Thursday, October 22.

Joining Michalson as new members on the board are Mark Becker of the Hyatt Regency Sarasota; Jennifer Compton of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP; Larry Fineberg of Benderson Development Co. Inc.; Joe Hembree of Hembree & Associates, Inc.; Hugh Peeples of Mercedes-Benz of Sarasota; William Seider of Williams, Parker, Harrison, Dietz & Getzen Law Office; and Timothy Shaw of Kirk Pinkerton, P.A.

In addition to his appointment to the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Board, President Michalson is a member and past president of the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities (FACU) and the Southern University Conference.  He is also a commissioner with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  His other board affiliations include the Leroy Collins Institute and the Educational Alliance of the Suncoast Workforce Board.

Established in 1921, the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce is comprised of some 2,300 member companies and organizations working together to pursue common interests related to business, education and commerce in Sarasota County.
