New College Police Taking Part in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
New College Campus Police will be collecting unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs on Saturday, April 27, as part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
Members of the Sarasota and Bradenton communities are encouraged to drop off the medications between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.at the Campus Police Station, 501 College Drive.
Officers will dispose of the medications, and participation is completely anonymous, said Mike Kessie, New College of Florida police chief.
The National Take-Back Day is a project of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in cooperation with state and local law enforcement agencies. Unused prescriptions can be a source of drug misuse and drug abuse, and often are disposed of improperly, causing safety and environmental hazards, DEA officials said.
In the five previous Take-Back events, law enforcement agencies nationwide have collected more than 2 million pounds of prescription drugs. For more information on the event, visit http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/
College Drive is one block north of University Parkway on U.S. 41, on the College’s Bayfront campus. The public should park in the Heiser Natural Sciences parking lot opposite the police station. Contact Chief Kessie at 941-487-4210 or [email protected] with any questions.
