New College Appoints Alan Burr as Director of Physical Plant
New College of Florida has named Alan Burr, a Bradenton resident and experienced administrator of college facilities, as its new director of physical plant.
Burr will oversee the College’s custodial, grounds and maintenance operations, supporting more than 600,000 square feet of academic, residential and administrative space on the 119-acre campus. He also will oversee the College’s facilities planning and construction activities, and the Campus Master Plan.
Burr was chosen after a four-month search and selected from a field of 39 candidates. “Alan has a track record of delivering timely and quality support on management of residential and academic facilities,” said John Martin, vice president of administration and finance at New College. “He’s known for being a good listener, communicator and organizer, and has a reputation for impeccable integrity.”
Burr has served as manager of facilities planning and budgeting at State College of Florida since November 2009. In that role, he has managed all capital funds and construction project budgets and developed the college’s master plan, capital improvement program and project priority list. He joined that college as Facilities Planner in 2006.
From 2002 to 2006, Burr served as associate vice president for facilities at the University of Dubuque, in Iowa. His responsibilities included administration of the buildings, grounds, custodial and safety/security departments, and implementation of the college’s master plan.
Before moving into higher education, he worked in urban and regional planning and construction management in Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota.
Burr received a master’s degree in leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 2009, a bachelor’s degree in environmental policy from University of Dubuque in 1995 and a bachelor’s degree in construction technology from University of Northern Iowa in 1987.
He begins work at New College on September 16.
