New College Alumnae/i Association Welcomes New Alum Coordinator
(July 7, 2010) The New College Alumnae/i Association (NCAA) welcomed its fourth alum coordinator, Morgan Boecher ’06, to the Association staff on June 7, 2010.
Morgan graduated from New College in May of 2010 with a BA in Anthropology / Gender Studies. He traveled to Japan in the summer of 2009 to interview tea ceremony practitioners for his thesis, Traditional Place and Feminist Space: The Japanese Tea Ceremony Makes Room for Empowerment. He also spent a semester abroad in Paris, France during the spring of 2008 to study French language and culture.
In addition to being an avid traveler, Morgan is an active leader, having participated as orientation leader for three years in a row as well as having revitalized the feminist and LGBTQ groups on campus. Through these groups, Morgan has organized numerous events, including Sexual Assault Awareness Week, The Clothesline Project, Love Your Body Week and Queery Week. Additionally, he arranged for the performance group Sex Signals and alum Suzanne Clayton to come to New College and further educate on diversity issues.
Morgan continues his activism as a volunteer blog editor for Paradigm Shift, a feminist organization based in New York City. He is a transsexual man and goes by masculine pronouns.
“NCAA is pleased to have Morgan on board continuing the tradition of stellar alum coordinators that have come before him,” stated VP of Alumnae/i Affairs Jessica Rogers. “Morgan brings a set of skills to his job that will prove to be invaluable during his time here.”
The alum coordinator position was established in May of 2007 by the NCAA as an opportunity for a recent New College graduate to learn and develop skills that will benefit his or her future career and life passions. During their tenure, alum coordinators serve as ambassadors and liaisons between students and young alums and the Association.
The mission of the New College Alumnae/i Association is to promote communication among Alumnae/i and between Alumnae/i and New College, to sponsor programs, activities and events for Alumnae/i, to advise the President of New College of Florida and the President of the New College Foundation, Inc. of Alumnae/i concerns, and to leverage and deploy the talent, knowledge, enthusiasm and financial resources of the Alumnae/i to support New College in carrying out its educational mission.
