During the December 7 meeting of the New College Board of Trustees, two recent trustee appointments were announced: Dr. Lance Karp and Dr. Sarah Mackie. Both trustees are renowned doctors in the local community.

Dr. Karp has been the co-owner and president of Sarasota Dental Group since 2002. He attended the University of Florida (UF), where he obtained a bachelor of science degree (B.S.), a doctor of dental medicine (DMD), and an advanced education in general dentistry (AEGD) residency.

He currently serves on the UF Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Manatee Technical College Dental Assisting Advisory Board, and the Florida Blue Key Alumni Advisory Board.

Dr. Karp has served as president of the Sheriff’s Activities League of Sarasota County, Inc. since 2010—a not-for-profit board that works with the sheriff, law enforcement, local businesses and community members to raise funding for programs that provide youth with safe, experiential educational opportunities.

Dr. Mackie is an optometrist who has been the co-owner/vice president of Eye Center, Inc. since 2001. She founded the Eye Center, Inc. Vision Foundation in 2013 to provide free eye exams and full sets of glasses to underprivileged students in Manatee County.

She is an active member of the Palmetto Charter School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Manatee County (she is also a former member of the executive board for the latter organization).

Dr. Mackie is currently a member at large of 100 Women Who Care Manatee, a group of women interested in supporting the local community by combining donations to impact local charities.
