Who knew that the 2009 Gaza War would result in a scholarship program for Middle Eastern women at a Florida university? Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish is a Palestinian physician, author, and three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Three of his daughters were killed in the Gaza War, and he believes the key to stability in the Middle East is female empowerment. … Abuelaish established the Daughters for Life Foundation (DFL) in honor of his daughters, who were between the ages of 13 and 20 when they were killed. The foundation sponsors the education of Middle Eastern women at universities in the Middle East, Canada, United States and United Kingdom. Early this month, DFL signed an agreement with New College of Florida to provide full scholarships for up to 10 students per year for at least three years.
