Graduate already having an impact on science

Shana Bergman just graduated from New College on Friday, but she has already found a new way for medical companies to test the effectiveness of HIV drugs.
She created computer algorithms that allow scientists — for the first time — to simulate the protective shell that surrounds HIV cells, known as a capsid. Essentially, her program will help drug companies test medications in an effort to see which most agitate the capsid.
