Forbes Rates New College of Florida a Top 20 ‘Best Buy College’
August 8, 2011 — New College of Florida landed the no. 16 spot on Forbes’ “Top 100 Best Buy Colleges for 2011,” a list with five military service academies and three tuition-free colleges in the top eight. This ranking comes on the heels of The Princeton Review’s fifth-place ranking of New College for “Great Financial Aid” and top scores for academics and professors.
“In these challenging economic times, it is more important than ever that we provide an affordable education that doesn’t sacrifice academic excellence,” said New College of Florida President Mike Michalson. “As the state’s public honors college for the liberal arts and sciences, New College offers an individualized education where students collaborate with faculty, develop intellectual self-reliance and gain critical thinking skills to meet the challenges of the 21st century.”
Forbes’ rankings are compiled by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, a Washington D.C. think tank. The “100 Best Buy Colleges” are calculated by taking each college’s overall quality rank on Forbes’ annual list of “America’s Top Colleges” and dividing that by the school’s tuition (in-state where applicable) and fees.
