College Graduates Face Tough Job Market

For Karise McNenney, who just earned her four-year degree majoring in early child development at State College of Florida, landing a job is going to be a matter of picking and choosing. … This spring, about 1,600 people, mostly in their 20s, will graduate from the four mainstay college-level schools in the Sarasota-Manatee area: the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, State College of Florida, New College and Ringling College of Art and Design. Roughly half, based on national and local statistics from past years, will pursue further academic degrees before entering the cold, cruel world of 9-to-5 work.
