Animal Rescue Coalition grows team with two new hires (Maggie O’Brien is an NCF alum)
From Tampa Bay Newswire, July 21, 2021
SARASOTA, Fla. — Animal Rescue Coalition (ARC), a not-for- profit organization with a mission to
provide and promote spay and neuter as the key to ending shelter overcrowding and senseless
euthanasia, recently welcomed Kayla Murphy as clinic manager and Maggie O’Brien as program manager.
Murphy brings an extensive background of leadership experience to ARC with over 8 years in
managerial and director roles. In her new role as clinic manager, she will manage the day-to-day
operations for the clinic and support the executive director and medical director to ensure that
the organization is meeting its goals and fulfilling its mission.
Murphy will also oversee support staff to make sure individual duties are being completed and provide direction,
among other duties. Most recently, Murphy served as the manager of ambulatory operations for
HealthFit at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. During her time there, she led a team of over 60 employees and managed a
membership base of over 3,000 with exceptional employee and member satisfaction.
Murphy received her master’s degree in kinesiology from Georgia Southern University and her
bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Florida.
O’Brien brings more than 8 years of animal rescue experience to ARC. In her new role as program
manager, she will supervise and direct all activities associated with ARC programs, including Ready
Set Rescue, transport programs to Desoto and Charlotte Counties, Emergency Medical Fund, the feral
cat program and ARC’s volunteer program. She will work under the direction of the executive
director to execute procedures and controls to ensure effective delivery of services, efficient use
of funds and timely tracking of outcomes, among other responsibilities.
Most recently, O’Brien worked at Bishop Animal Shelter S.P.C.A. of Manatee County where she managed
a team of 20 employees. During her 6-year tenure, she was responsible for daily operations of all
departments in the shelter, including animal intake, adoptions, medical treatment, public relations
and oversight of the volunteer and foster programs.
“Both Kayla and Maggie are welcome additions to the ARC team,” said Laura McCann, executive
director of Animal Rescue Coalition. “Their respective skills and experience will greatly enhance
ARC’s invaluable impact on animals, rescues, pet owners and the communities of the Suncoast
region.”
Talent acquisition company MBJ Group led the not-for-profit’s successful search for the two
positions.
