The Counseling and Wellness Center provides medical services including a range of primary care, referral, and educational services, for currently enrolled New College students.

Fall 2022 Medical Clinic Hours
New College students can make appointments for Student Health Services during the fall/spring academic terms. Services include general medical, sexual health, gynecology exams, vaccinations, and allergy shots.

At times, a student’s needs fall outside the scope of services provided by the center (i.e. dermatology, orthopedic needs) and need to be addressed by a specialist. In such cases, the practitioner and Center staff will help refer the client to an appropriate community referral for further treatment.
Students are expected to seek medical interventions in the community outside of our regular business hours. Please note that these offices are not associated with our Center and normal medical fees are associated with these offices:

The State of Florida requires all students under the age of 40, whether degree or non-degree, full-time or part-time, to present documented proof of immunity to Rubella. All students born after 1965 must also submit proof of immunity to Measles.
Documentation must be submitted before a student is allowed to register for or attend classes.

Mandatory:
- Medical History Form with proof of two MMR immunizations.
- Medical Information Form.
- Waiver for Treatment of Minors (if applicable).
- Either proof of Hepatitis B immunization series AND Meningitis immunizations OR signed waiver form.
Recommended:
- Date of last tetanus vaccination.
- Copy of Health Insurance card.
- Medical records pertaining to continued medical treatment you may need while on campus

The Measles and MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) immunizations are available through the Counseling and Wellness Center for a nominal fee. Tuberculosis testing, tetanus vaccine, and rubella and rubeola titers are also available. Please call the Center at 941-487-4254 for a complete list of immunizations offered, pricing, and to make an appointment.
NCF students may purchase health insurance under the Healthcare Reform Act (Obamacare). More information can be found at www.healthcare.gov
All international students who need to obtain insurance, below are links to current companies that provide international student insurance plans.

As our patient, you have the right:
- To be treated with respect, consideration, and dignity.
- To appropriate privacy.
- To confidentiality of your medical records. Except when required by law, patients will be given the opportunity to approve or refuse the release of medical records.
- To be provided complete information, to the degree known, concerning your diagnosis, evaluation, treatment and prognosis unless medically inadvisable.
- To participate with your practitioner in making informed decisions involving your health care, including your right to accept or refuse medical care or treatment.
- To request and receive a second opinion from a community provider.
- To review your medical record.
- To care that is considerate and respectful of your own values and cultural beliefs, and to equal access to treatment regardless of race, national origin, creed, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or religion.
- To timely access to health care.
- To refuse to participate in experimental research. A refusal to participate in research will never jeopardize subsequent care at the Counseling and Wellness Center.
- To examine and receive an explanation of costs for treatment when applicable.
As our patient, you have the responsibility:
- To provide to the best of your knowledge, accurate and complete information.
- To follow the plan of treatment as discussed and recommended by the health professional and to assume responsibility if you refuse treatment or don’t follow the plan.
- To inform provider about living will and/or medical power of attorney or other directive that may affect your health care.
- To arrange payment for any charges not covered by the health fee.
- To treat staff with respect, consideration, and dignity.
- To inform the Counseling and Wellness Center Director as soon as possible if you believe your rights have been violated, to express grievances, or to offer suggestions.
- To respect the community by turning off cell phones, or placing them on vibrate, and refraining from use unless authorized by the Health Care Provider.
- To keep your appointment at the Counseling and Wellness Center, or to cancel at least one hour before the scheduled appointment.
CVS and Walgreens can deliver medications to the Counseling & Wellness Center. Once your medication is delivered, all you need is your picture ID to pick it up during our normal business hours Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Who is eligible for services at The Counseling and Wellness Center?
All currently registered New College students.
What types of medical problems can the CWC treat? What happens if the CWC can’t take care of my problem?
The Center is an outpatient facility to treat general medical concerns. If a medical concern is outside the scope of Center services, the Center staff will help you find a referral to a specialist in the community.
Where is the Counseling and Wellness Center located, and when is it open?
The CWC is located directly across from the Jane Bancroft Library on the West side of Bay Shore Road. The Center is open Monday through Friday 8 Am-5 PM. However, services are not available during winter break and during the summer.
Do I need an appointment? Or can I “walk in”?
We highly recommend that you call and make an appointment (941-487-4254) to ensure you can be seen as soon as possible. We will accept clients who walk in for mental health emergencies if there is an appointment slot available, but this cannot be guaranteed.
What can I do if the CWC is not open and I need to be seen right away?
If you can’t wait until the next available appointment, our website has a list of community providers in the immediate area. If it is an emergency please go to the emergency room, call 911, or contact the campus police.
How much does a visit to Student Health Service cost?
Standard visits to the Counseling and Wellness Center for medical services are free. Some services and procedures that rise above the scope of standard services have a nominal fee associated with them. Please call the Center for specific information regarding fees.
Can I get medication at the CWC?
The Counseling and Wellness Center does not directly dispense medication, but the practitioner will provide students prescriptions if warranted. The CWC tries to keep the most up to date information regarding pharmacy promotions to ensure our students can obtain their medication at a reasonable cost. Walgreens and CVS will deliver to the CWC.
Do I need Insurance?
Counseling Services does not work with insurance and are free of charge and confidential. Counseling Records will not be shared with insurance companies unless the student provides a release of information and requests their information to be shared.
Does the Counseling and Wellness Center provide care for women’s health?
Yes, the CWC provides gynecological care to include pap smears, STI testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, and birth control.
Do you offer psychiatry in your facility?
We refer all psychiatric medication care to outside community resources.
I am an alumni. Can I be seen at the Counseling and Wellness Center?
As an alumnus, you no longer qualify to receive services through the CWC. However, if you need referral information for a community provider or records for continuation of care, we can assist you given the appropriate release of information.
