New College Library Association Names Margaret Boyd as New Executive Director

Margaret Boyd has been named executive director of the New College Library Association, succeeding Jane Summerville Kiebitz, who retired May 30 after more than eight years in that post.

Boyd has more than 14 years of experience in the non-profit sector, having served as director of donor programs for the South County Family YMCA in Venice and as executive director of the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County from 1995 to 2003. She holds a B.S. in English from Indiana University, Bloomington.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the New College family,” said Boyd, who has lived on the west coast of Florida since 1990. “New College is unique in its academic programming and its students are clearly the brightest and best this country has to offer. The Jane Bancroft Cook Library is the heart of the campus and plays a major role in the education the students receive.”

Boyd stated that in addition to continuing its successful fundraising traditions (Mistletoe Ball and Pique-nique sur la Baie), the Library Association will focus on funding the expansion of Cook Library’s collection, including initiatives such as the newly-established Dr. Helen N. Fagin Holocaust Collection and Colloquium, an annual three-day symposium that explores topics of relevance to contemporary society.

Jane Summerville Kiebitz was honored at a luncheon on May 16 attended by many friends, past presidents, board members and event chairs of the New College Library Association. During her tenure, a $1.5 million endowment was created, event revenues reached record highs and the Library Association joined in affiliation with New College Foundation.

“It has been an honor to be associated with such a well-respected academic institution, its Foundation, Library Association and with Cook Library,” said Kiebitz. “Together with board members, friends of the library and its staff, we have accomplished much over these past eight years. I will miss it all.” To celebrate her retirement, Kiebitz and her husband, Bob, plan to spend the summer in the Adirondacks in upstate New York before traveling to China this fall.

The New College Library Association was founded in 1964 to gather 16,000 volumes to open the Jane Bancroft Cook Library at New College of Florida. Its mission since has been to provide direct financial support to ensure that the library has the intellectual resources to serve “The Honors College of the State of Florida.” Over the years, the Library Association has provided more than $3 million in support for the purchase of books and other education materials for the College.
