Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, Adjunct Instructor of Dance at New College, Receives Arts Council Artistic Achievement Award
Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, adjunct instructor of dance at New College of Florida, was presented with the “Artistic Achievement Award” at the Sarasota County Arts Council’s 10th Annual Awards Celebration earlier this month.
The awards were created to honor those who are actively engaged in the cultural life of the Sarasota community via media, artistic achievement, volunteer, philanthropy and arts education.
Bolaños Wilmott was the first individual in the state of Florida to receive a certificate in Dance and Healing from the University of Florida and has a Master of Fine Arts in Performance/ Choreography from Florida State University. She also choreographed the Kaleidoscope Theater Troupe summer program.
Bolaños Wilmott is Co-Founder/Artistic Director of Fuzión Dance Artists, which has been hailed as Sarasota’s first contemporary dance company. She was a recipient of the 2006 Sarasota Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship, was nominated in 2005 by Sarasota Magazine as best choreographer in a musical for “Miss Saigon” presented at the Players’ Theatre, and received the Dance Magazine award in 2002 for Southeast Best Choreographer.
