New College Student Kate Boeyen Selected to Participate in State Department’s “30/30 Program" with China
Kate Boeyen, a second-year student at New College of Florida studying Chinese language and literature, has been selected to participate in the “30/30 Program,” which is being put on by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and China’s Ministry of Education (MOE) commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the two nations.
This summer, Boeyen as well as 29 fellow undergrads from the U.S. and thirty undergrads from China will travel to one another’s countries. Boeyen will join the other 29 participants on university campuses in Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai for three months, participating in tours, lectures and meetings to learn about the politics, economics and culture of China. Kate will be the sixth student from New College’s two-year old Chinese language program to have the opportunity to study in China.
“This trip will expose Kate to the breadth and diversity of Chinese culture, since she is traveling to three vastly different cities located respectively in the north, on the east coast and in the innerland of the country,” commented Assistant Professor of Chinese Language and Culture Jing Zhang. “We are very proud of Kate and understand that she is already planning a reunion with other New College students who will also be in Beijing for research and language programs this summer.”
