New College of Florida Included in Fiske Guide’s Top Financial Finds on the College Tuition Market
Leading Independent Guide to Colleges Announces the Best Buy Schools of 2010
New College of Florida has been named a “best buy school” by the Fiske Guide to Colleges. The revised and updated 2010 edition of Fiske Guide to Colleges features 44 Best Buy Schools – 20 public and 24 private – in the country. These institutions were chosen based on the quality of academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance. Fiske researchers combined the cost data with academic and other lifestyle information about each college and university to determine what institutions offer remarkable educational opportunities at a relatively modest cost.
According to Fiske, tuition and fees alone now run at least $6,000 at a typical public university and close to $30,000 at a typical private college, and the overall tab at the most selective and expensive schools tops $50,000. Edward B. Fiske, author of the bestselling Fiske Guide to Colleges states, “One of the lesser-known facts of life about higher education in the U.S. is that price and quality do not always go hand-in-hand.”
Joining New College on this year’s list of “Best Buys” are some of the nation’s premier institutions of higher education, including University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rice University, Evergreen State, Grinnell College, Case Western Reserve University, Wheaton College and Brigham Young University. The University of Florida was the only other college or university in the state to make the list.
For more than 20 years, this leading guide to more than 330 colleges and universities has been an indispensable source of information for college-bound students and their parents. The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2010 delivers an insider’s look at the academic climates and the social and extracurricular scenes at the “best and most interesting” schools in the US, Canada and Great Britain. It accepts no consulting, advertising or other fees from colleges and has no outside relationship with colleges working on its behalf. The Fiske Guide’s only goal is to help future students select the best colleges to reach their own goals in a price range that is manageable for their personal circumstances.
