New College Alum Robert Allen Announces Interns for the 24th Annual International Coastal Cleanup
The Miami law firm of Robert Allen Law announces the appointment of three summer interns for the 2009 Miami-Dade Coastal Cleanup. Allen attended New College from 1974-1978 and majored in International Relations. He served as a Board of Governors’ appointed Trustee of New College of Florida from 2002 to 2005.
The Cleanup, which will be held on September 19, 2009, is part of The Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup. The project has grown into a major worldwide event. From the United States to Vietnam, over 300,000 international volunteers lent a hand last year to clean up litter and marine debris from the shores, lakes and rivers of nearly 90 nations.
The three interns, Daniel Pardo, Michelle Suarez and Eduardo Martinez, will coordinate efforts in Miami-Dade County area. Last year, over 3,000 volunteers joined together at 19 coastal and inland cleanup sites to clear almost 30 miles of the coastline and collect over 10,000 pounds of debris.
Daniel Pardo of Kendall, a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School and currently a Finance major at the University of Notre Dame, will serve as the Bates-Meyer Intern in Corporate Responsibility. Pardo will be working on finding and confirming sites for the event, facilitating meetings with site coordinators and finding appropriate sponsors willing to donate to the Cleanup’s efforts.
Michelle Suarez of Pinecrest, a graduate of Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, will serve as the Rice-Le Intern in Environmental Responsibility and focus on public relations for the event by gathering media contacts, writing press releases and promoting the Cleanup in order to help recruit volunteers. She is a senior at the University of Notre Dame majoring in Film, Television and Theatre.
Eduardo Martinez is the Allen-Daniels Intern in Public Service. A high school junior at Miami Coral Park Sr. High, Martinez will be responsible for recruiting high school volunteers for the event as well as assisting with the Miami-Dade Coastal Cleanup website.
