(November 18, 2010) — New College of Florida’s softball team, the Bones, clinched the Sarasota Sunday Night D League Championship this past weekend with a decisive 33-18 win over Kovach Services in the final game. The Bones dominated World of Beer 16-8 in the semifinal round.

Mark Johnson of the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid won the league batting title for the third time in the last four seasons. Professor Richard Coe finished third in the batting race, edging out political science professor Joe Mink in fourth place and political science professor Frank Alcock, who finished 10th in the league for hitting.

The 2010 team roster includes faculty members Frank Alcock, Gordon Bauer, Rick Coe, Doug Langston and Joe Mink; alumni Isaac Liu, Jack Mewhirter and Norm Worthington; staff members Brandan Cole, Brian Doherty, Mitch Finer, Mark Johnson and Chris Rivett; and Steiner Bell, husband of anthropology professor Erin Dean.

Founded in 1985, the New College Bones is comprised of members of students, faculty, staff and alums associated with the College. This year’s championship campaign marked the third or fourth time in team history (no one seems to remember the exact number) that the Bones have won the league crown.

Way to go Bones!
