New College Gets Strong Support in Giving Challenge
Alumni, students, faculty and staff responded with enthusiasm in the 36-Hour Giving Challenge, with 462 donors giving $74,600 to the New College Foundation. The support will help New College continue to provide an academic program already recognized as one of the country’s best values for quality and price.
The donations total is likely to grow. New College also is eligible for Giving Challenge matching gifts and bonus grants yet to be announced.
The results also showed the Sarasota-Manatee community the strength of the New College family. New College ranked second among all 287 participating non-profits for total donations and was near the top of the widely-viewed online leaderboard for the duration of the event. The College also was a strong performer for the number of donors, ranking fifth among the participating groups.
“We’re thrilled that the people of Sarasota and Manatee counties and our alumni have again so generously supported New College and its students, who have a history of in turn giving back to their community and to the world,” said New College President Donal O’Shea. “This will help us continue to provide small class sizes and close interaction between students and their professors, and at an affordable cost for families.”
Felice Schulaner, chair of the New College Foundation , thanked the local community and alumni for their generosity. “It is an investment in our unique educational model, which has a track record of educating extraordinary students who go on to make significant contributions post-college,” she said. “It is a gesture of thanks from alumni for the transformational experience they enjoyed. It also is a vote of confidence in our new president, Donal O’Shea, and his exciting vision for the future of this wonderful school.”
The 36-Hour Giving Challenge is an annual online fund-raising event sponsored by the Giving Partner, a joint program of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Manatee Community Foundation and The Patterson Foundation.
