New College of Florida, the state’s honors college for arts and sciences, has selected Shannon Duvall as its new Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director of the New College Foundation. A native of the Orlando area, Duvall is associate vice president for development at Albion College, a nationally recognized, independent liberal arts college in south-central Michigan.
At New College, she will be responsible for all aspects of the College’s fundraising program, including major and planned giving, the annual fund and the New College Promise, the ongoing capital campaign.
Duvall was chosen after a national search. Dr. Donal O’Shea, president of New College, praised Duvall’s experience in securing large gifts, developing and managing giving programs and generating a strong return on investment in fundraising.
“Shannon emerged from a very strong pool as the unanimous first choice of the selection committee,” O’Shea said. “The committee members were especially attracted by her professionalism, her impressive track record, her knowledge of all aspects of educational advancement, and her personal warmth. We are thrilled, and very proud, that she has chosen to join New College and we look forward to her guiding us to new levels of fundraising and accomplishment.”
“The opportunity to join such a strong leadership team headed by the visionary and charismatic President Donal O’Shea at one of the nation’s leading public colleges for liberal arts and sciences was an opportunity I could not miss,” Duvall said.
Citing the need to “lead by example,” Duvall already has given to the New College annual fund.
“New College Advancement and the Foundation are engaged in an exciting transformation, one that will encourage constituents to invest in our unique liberal arts and sciences education in a manner that provides the foundation for our current and future students to solve societal and global issues,” she said.
“As part of this process, I look forward to working closely with alumnae/i, College and Foundation board members, external donors and other community supporters who make New College such a special place.”
At Albion, Duvall has been responsible for major and planned giving, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, prospect management and research, and staff development and training. She previously worked in development at Michigan State University for 10 years, holding positions of increasing responsibility. She also is a 2011 graduate of the Council of Independent Colleges’ Senior Leadership Academy.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Duvall is a doctoral candidate at Michigan State University, studying higher, adult and lifelong education administration. She received a master’s degree in social work from Michigan State in 2003 and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Queens College (now Queens University of Charlotte) in 1992.
She will begin work at New College on May 13.
