Being green isn’t easy. Florida State University will not see proposed funds that would have supported sustainability initiatives such as the reCycle Bike Program and Garnet and Gold Goes Green. Instead, FSU will now see more difficulties maintaining its verdure after the Board of Governors denied its proposal for the Student Green Fund, a proposed $.50 per credit hour fee to support campus sustainability initiatives. … New College of Florida, University of West Florida and the University of South Florida have already implemented green fees of their own, each more expensive than that of FSU’s proposal. FSU modeled their green fee on USF’s, a university comparable in size and operation. Swiman noted that USF requested their fee in a different political climate.
