North Port Springs Offer Window to Past
Until she became an anthropology student at New College of Florida, North Port resident Jodi Johnson did not appreciate the cultural and scientific importance of two landmarks where she lives: Warm Mineral Springs and Little Salt Spring. “We’re fortunate to have two of the rarest archaeological sites anywhere …,” Johnson said. “I see value in that and a responsibility for stewardship.” Johnson and others who share her enthusiasm, including several scientific experts and researchers, recently formed the nonprofit Ancient Waters Foundation. The organization intends to better educate the public about what it calls “two national treasures” and promote their preservation.
