Audiences know the New Music New College concert series brings innovative artists to the region, and perhaps none are more unique than Pamela Z, who will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17.

The composer, performer and media artist returns to the NMNC series for the first time in five years. Pamela Z will present a single, original work titled “Memoria.” The piece draws on multiple media to explore the place of recollection in the human experience.

Pamela Z is a composer, performer and media artist who works primarily with voice, live electronic processing, sampled sound, and video. While she has a bachelor’s degree in music and is trained in classical voice, Pamela Z is considered a pioneer in the use of live digital looping techniques. Her solo performances combine experimental extended vocal techniques, operatic bel canto, found objects, text, and sampled concrete sounds. She manipulates sound and images during her performances using customized computer hardware and advanced software.

She has toured worldwide, composed, recorded and performed original scores for many choreographers and filmmakers, and has received grants and honors including the Guggenheim Fellowship, the CalArts Alpert Award in the Arts, an ASCAP Music Award and many more.

The performance will be in “Club Sudakoff,” at the Sudakoff Conference Center, on New College’s Pei Campus, east of Tamiami Trail.
