An educational program on the Bert Harris Act and the environment is being sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Lee County.
Frank Alcock, an associate professor of political science at New College in Sarasota and a former director of the Marine Policy Institute at Mote Marine Laboratory, is the featured speaker. The program is scheduled for 9-11 a.m. Jan. 5.

Patty Duncan, environmental chair of the league, said Mr. Alcock came to her attention in a news feature about environmental issues in the higher education curriculum. She said the article quoted him as teaching students about the Bert Harris Act and the impact it has on cities’ and counties’ inability to protect sensitive environmental areas.
The free program is at the Collaboratory, 2031 Jackson St., in Fort Myers.
For reservations, call 239-278-1032 or email [email protected] by Jan. 2.
