New College launches search for new president in year of challenges

New College of Florida is on the search for a new leader.
In October, President Donal O’Shea announced he would retire at the end of this school year, and the Board of Trustees has begun the search for his replacement. If everything goes according to the plan, the new university president will begin on July 1, 2021.
It won’t be an easy job for whoever takes O’Shea’s place.
Last year, New College survived a legislative effort to strip the school of its independent status and turn it into a satellite campus of the University of Florida. And enrollment at the state’s smallest university has fallen every year since 2016, despite lawmakers allocating millions of dollars in an ambitious plan to double the number of students enrolled.
