Relive the Chamber Orchestra of NCF Winter Concert
More than a dozen New College students, joined by guest artists and collaborating music students from other local institutions, delivered an awe-inspiring performance Wednesday night at Mildred E. Sainer Auditorium in the inaugural winter concert for the Chamber Orchestra of NCF. The ensemble, which formed in August, performed 14 scheduled pieces and an encore to raucous applause from a capacity crowd.
Among the performances were pieces written by some of history’s most brilliant composers, including Bach, Beethoven, and Handel. The audience, a mix of New College students, faculty, staff, and fans of classical music from throughout the local community, were engaged and entertained throughout the night.
Acclaimed conductor and violinist George Maxman directed the newly formed ensemble, with support from Mark Dancigers, assistant professor of music at New College. The concert was made possible by the generous philanthropy of Ling Z. and Michael C. Markovitz.
The ensemble was resilient throughout the semester, facing the interruptions of multiple hurricanes while striving to put together a memorable first concert. With hard work and dedication, their musical acumen was on full display Wednesday night.
