Hurricane Milton Recovery and Resumption of Operations
Campus Community,
Thank you for your patience and resilience while we have finalized details for returning to campus.
Student housing will reopen Sunday, October 13, at noon, with the exception of Atala Hall at USF-SM. New College is in close communication with USF and we will advise separately when Atala Hall reopens.
If you are a resident of Atala Hall or an on-campus resident whose room may have an issue, you still can return to campus but will be housed in Sudakoff Conference Center until your regular accommodation is restored. While storm damage to dorms and the areas around them was minimal, there may be instances of air conditioning failure in some rooms. Cots are set up and ample charging stations have been added for phones, computers, and other devices. Students planning to go to Sudakoff should bring any essential items including medicine, pillow and blanket, etc.
Students requesting to stay at Sudakoff should email Vice President of Student Affairs Almeda Jacks at [email protected] as soon as possible in order to coordinate food service planning and facility staffing.
Please note that the Sudakoff Center Parking lot will remain closed for parking until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 13. There is a Hope Florida bus distribution taking place in that lot from noon-5 p.m. on Sunday. Food, water, and other essential supplies are being distributed at this site. This service is available to the public while supplies last.
All additional updates on student housing will be relayed via email by Student Affairs.
Dining services will reopen at noon on Sunday and follow previously planned Fall Break hours.
The Recreation Center will reopen Monday, October 14, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The pool will remain closed for equipment repairs.
The library will reopen and observe its posted Fall Break hours beginning Tuesday, October 15.
As Monday is a holiday for the College, full business operations for all departments will commence on Tuesday, October 15.
Resumption of Classes
New College is observing its scheduled Fall Break from October 14-18, with classes resuming on Monday, October 21.
Special Considerations
We know everyone’s circumstances following a hurricane are different. If any New College student or employee has concerns about their ability to return to campus for school or work on the schedule noted above:
· Employees should contact their direct supervisor to discuss their individual situation.
· Students whose ability to return to campus has been impacted should email Vice President of Student Affairs Almeda Jacks at [email protected].
Thank you to our entire community for their continued vigilance during this busy part of hurricane season, and we look forward to welcoming you back to campus.
