New College Alumni Association Announcement of Elections
- Logistics – Call for Applications and Election Dates
The New College Alumni Association announces nine open seats on its Board, to be filled by election. The open seats are for three-year terms.
Applications to be a candidate will be screened by the Association’s Governance Committee based on the limited criteria set forth in Association Bylaws art. III, § 3. Applicants may receive a phone call from a Governance Committee member for a brief interview.
Applications were accepted from June 15, 2024 to 11:59pm (EDT) on July 10, 2024.
The voting period will be announced shortly following a meeting of the Association’s Governance Committee to review applications.
The Association’s Bylaws are available here.
Inquiries regarding elections may be sent to [email protected] and will be directed to Doug Christy ’96, the Chair of the Governance Committee.
- Expectations and Present Board Activities
The Alumni Association Board looks forward to new members, hopefully
representing a broader range of perspectives and with new energy and ideas to increase the meaningfulness and relevance of the Alumni Association’s programs.
The time commitment is real, but not overwhelming. Normally, the New College Alumni Association Board meets four times per year, with additional meetings scheduled as needed. Members who serve on committees of the Board may have committee meetings as well.
Meetings, if in-person, have a hybrid option, and the Bylaws have been reformed so as not to require in-person attendance (although members may find in-person attendance at some meetings rewarding).
New College of Florida has approximately 7,500 living alumni. The Alumni Association has been formally affiliated with New College Foundation, Inc. since 2002.
Among other projects and initiatives, Board Members will have opportunities to be involved in:
- Dialogue with administrators of New College of Florida and New College Foundation, Inc.
- Planning Alumni Association events to be held in cities around the country (the current Foundation budget has funding for this purpose).
- Planning an Alumni Reunion to be held in or about February, 2025 (the current Foundation budget has funding for this purpose).
- Planning an anticipated Alumni Town Hall with New College’s President, Richard Corcoran.
- Planning and coordinating alumni involvement in career advising, mentorship, career fairs, and panels.
- Coordinating the Student Research and Travel Grants program.
- Alumni Association publications and communications.
- Leadership opportunities (we expect openings in significant committee chair positions, and the term of the current Chair of the Alumni Association ends on June 30, 2025).
