New Articulation Agreement Provides Scholarships for Students from State College of Florida Collegiate Schools to Attend New College of Florida

SCFCS graduates who achieve a GPA of 3.0 or greater, meet the SAT or ACT score requirements, and complete both their high school diploma and an associate in arts degree are eligible for the scholarship upon acceptance to New College.

“As the designated honors college for the state of Florida, New College of Florida has always attracted some of the best and brightest students from around the state as well as nationally,” said Ann Masterman, Ph.D., the executive director of new student and graduate admissions at New College. “But we wanted to send a strong signal of our commitment to top students right here in our backyard.”

New College offers an academically rigorous environment—something the dual-enrolled students of SCFCS are well-prepared for upon graduation.

“We are proud of this new opportunity for our Collegiate School graduates, and thankful for the time and effort of our colleagues at New College who helped in establishing this agreement,” said Todd G. Fritch, Ph.D., the executive vice president and provost at State College of Florida.

Kelly Monod, the SCFCS senior head of collegiate schools, added, “We are extremely excited to see our students offered a scholarship to complete their bachelor’s degree at one of our state’s exceptional honors colleges. New College’s nearby residential campus, personalized learning environment and stellar academic reputation make it an attractive destination for our highly desirable graduates.”

SCFCS will organize annual New College campus visits for seniors and provide other opportunities for students to learn about the academic programs available. SCFCS educates students in grades six through 12 in Bradenton, and in grades nine through 12 in Venice.

Juniors and seniors complete the rigorous, full-time dual enrollment program as charter school students. They have the opportunity to complete their associate in arts degree upon graduation from high school. SCF Collegiate Schools offer a dual enrollment program in a nontraditional school setting, with access to academic and college advisers and support throughout their entire academic careers.

“We established this partnership with SCF Collegiate Schools because we know the challenging preparation and dual enrollment curriculum that it offers, and that it attracts some of the best students in the Manasota region,” said New College of Florida Dean of Outreach Bill Woodson, Ph.D. “This scholarship makes a New College education even more affordable for local high school students. It demonstrates New College’s commitment to giving back to our community and being a partner in the development of the region’s talent pool.”
